Code of Conduct

STANFORD UNIVERSITY MEMORANDUM
Office of the President

To: Members of the Stanford University Community
From: John L. Hennessy
Date: October 6, 2004

As a member of the Stanford University community, each of us is responsible for maintaining the highest ethical standards and performing activities with the utmost integrity and fairness.

In October 2001, I established the Institutional Compliance Coordinating Committee to help ensure that we continue to fulfill our legal and ethical obligations to each other and to persons outside Stanford with whom we interact. One outcome of that effort was the formulation of a revised Code of Conduct that better responds to our dynamic academic environment and that reinforces the collective responsibility of each individual community member.

I am pleased to provide you with this document, which expresses our shared values and which reflects my commitment to integrating these core values into daily decisions and actions.

The revised Code of Conduct has been published as Administrative Guide Memo 1.
